Founded in 1991, the FOLA is a citizen advocacy group dedicated to the restoration of Lake Apopka. Their site also contains contact information for many other Central Florida conservation organizations which do not yet have a web presence

Linking Florida's Natural Heritage: Science and Citizenry   NEW December 8, 2000
   This is a project funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to create a virtual library of Florida ecological information from heterogeneous museum, library, and citation databases throughout the state of Florida. This is a model program of cooperation between the Florida Museum of Natural History; the libraries of the University of Florida, Florida International University, and Florida Atlantic University; and the Florida Center for Library Automation

US Army Corps of Engineers -- Jacksonville District
   The link points to a page within the USACE site which is updated daily with water level information for the water bodies for which the corps is responsible. Check out the Four Rivers Basin to see how Lake County’s Lakes are doing.
Water 2020 -- Water for the Future
    Probably the biggest planning project currently on the state's drawing boards -- this will determine the future development of Central Florida.

Meadowview Biological Research Station
  Meadowview is a non-profit* organization dedicated to preserving and restoring rare wetland plants, habitats and associated ecosystems on the coastal plain of Maryland and Virginia -- All right, they're a bit north of Central Florida, but they're dedicated to the idea that people can build bogs in their backyards and they've got permits to sell otherwise endangered plants to people who want to nurture them

  PEER is a private, nonprofit organization that provides uniquely valuable services to government employees charged with safeguarding the nation's natural resources.

Locally active in toxic cleanup in California, this organization is also a clearing house for world-wide concerns about the environmental impact of computers...especially the disposal of old computers and the waste products produced by hi-tech fabrication.
