Many political and economic forces have intersected to create the phenomenon known as Merchant Power Plants.

These privately owned plants are designed to generate both profits for their owners and energy for consumers. The electricity they generate is not generally sold to residental users but to local utilities, who buy energy from Merchant Power Plants during “peak demand” times, and/or to large corporate customers to whom they frequently offer discounted rates.

In the past few years LCCC has watched several Merchant Power Plants appear on Lake County’s environmental and growth management radar.  We’re not yet convinced that any of them are in our best interests

A citizen’s alliance directly concerned with Merchant Power Plants has formed and has its own website
